Version 1.0.0 Notes

Thanks for playing Balloon Warriors! You can think of this first version as a ‘proof of concept’. It’s still pretty rough, but I think the general ideas are there. Let me know if you have any suggestions or if you found some bugs that I don’t know about.

Current state:

- 2 Game Modes (both local multiplayer without bots):

Brawl Mode: Normal combat, popping others’ balloons gives you a point. Being the last survivor of the round also gives you another point.

Party Mode: There are extra balloons that give you a point. Popping others’ balloons also gives you a point.

- Cosmetics: There are 36 items to choose from (7 helmets, 16 balloons, 7 swords and 6 shields).

-Levels: There are 60 different levels (30 in each mode) where you can fight in (try to play 15 rounds to be able to see all of them).

-Power Ups: There are 4 Power Ups (Speed, Immunity, Vintage Filter and Special Attack).

Things to improve:

-The shielding mechanic (sfx, particles, pushing other players, etc).

-General combat (animation, colliders, etc).

-Players’ feedback when their helmet is gone and you’re immune for a moment (I was working on a blinking effect but it didn’t look great).

-The way a level is selected is not the best, they’re essentially ordered in ‘rounds’ and there’s two variants for each round, so level 11, level 12, level 21, level 22, and so on. So if someone plays only 5 rounds, they’re not able to see level 131, which would only appear when playing 15 rounds. This surely needs revisiting, so the player feels that they’re not playing the same levels each time.

-Adding bots or a single player mode would certainly help make the game feel more polished. I’ll explore both ideas in the future.

-Having online multiplayer would be nice to have, but I don’t currently have the knowledge to implement that yet. I don’t think I’ll be working on that soon, but it’s still in my mind.

-More options to lower the settings of my game (toggle anti aliasing, post processing, screen resolutions, etc).

-Adding more Game Modes, Power Ups, Cosmetics (or maybe an option to choose your color).

Known bugs:

- Even though Joy-Con are supposed to be supported, I found out they were not very reliable while testing them. They tend to act weird sometimes (as if they’re repeatedly pressing all the buttons) which makes it impossible to play. I don’t know if it’s just my controllers (or my pc setup), but the only consistent fix I found was to remove the Joy-Con from the bluetooth list on the PC settings, restart the computer, then connect the Joy-Con again (which is pretty tedious). I didn’t want to eliminate Joy-Con support altogether, because they’re a couple of controllers that many people may have laying around. But if I cannot fix this in the future, I think I would consider not having them as an option.

- The audio sometimes glitches, I don’t know why (I thought it only happened inside the Editor, but apparently it occasionally happens on the Build). Restarting the game usually fixes it but I’ll try to find a solution to this.

- The frame rate sometimes drops a bit randomly. It doesn’t happen that often and it corrects itself after a second, but I’ll investigate why that happens.

- If you stand over the Power Up spawner, or the Extra Point Ballon (in Party mode) when the balloon is going to respawn, sometimes the player gets teleported on top of their own balloon, and if you start jumping, you can start flying up. This is pretty funny and I don’t think it harms the game too much haha, so I’ll consider fixing it (if I find a quick way to do it).
